THE LEGACY
In 1975, Financial Advisor Richard ‘Dick’ Jenkins was offered the Kansas City territory by Provident Mutual. Dick fell in love with the metro during his fact-finding trip, so he packed up his then small, Texas based family and relocated to Shawnee, Kansas. This is when Midwestern Financial Group was born. For years he ran a large agency with up to 35 Advisors and support staff. MFG even had 2 satellite offices, out of state, at one time. In 1995 Dick decided he wanted to switch his focus from mostly management and limited client service to the personal freedom offered in returning to his roots. He moved his practice to a new broker/dealer W.S. Griffith, now known as LPL, and became an Independent Advisor. This change allowed Dick to concentrate on his true passion – serving and coaching his clients. He continued with LPL until his retirement in 2017 at which time his oldest son, Jeffrey, purchased the MFG book of business. Some of the many professional awards Dick received included: National Quality Award; National Sales Achievement Award; National Management Awards; and 5 time recipient of 5 Star Wealth Managers designation.
Over the years, Dick, and his wife Kathy, kept busy growing the family to 4 children: Jennifer, Jeff, John and Joe; and 9 grandchildren: Daniel, Sam, Abram, Sutton, Anthony, Reese, Savannah, Celia, and Cylus. He was always active in the community serving in roles such as Board of Directors for GABL; President of Downtown Optimist Club of KC; President of General Agents & Managers Association of KC; Board of Directors for KC Life Underwriters Association; Planned/Deferred Gifts Committee for Kansas Special Olympics; Precinct Committeeman in Shawnee, KS; Deacon at Nall Avenue Baptist Church; and 6 years as President of Johnson County 3 & 2 Baseball during which time he led the effort for the build of the 3 & 2 West Baseball complex. Dick was also known as Coach (namely baseball and basketball) for all his sons. Today he enjoys maintaining the lush gardens in his backyard and golfing as often as possible.
